I mentioned last week that I wasn’t familiar with essential oils at all until about 2 years ago. Since then I have slowly begun to understand what they’re good for, and how God made them! I’m still learning every day, and will be forever probably, but the reality is that God made all the plants on the earth and this is the blood life of the plant that we can extract and use to our benefit. I’m not sure what Adam and Eve’s children used when they were sick, but it had to be something from the garden since that’s all they had. Today 55% of Americans take prescription drugs, that includes me! We all have different things wrong with us, defects as my mom calls them, because of the Fall of man. We can’t be perfect on this side of Heaven.I currently take prescription medication for asthma, allergies, and acid reflux. Not my most proud characteristics by far, but it’s true. I would really like to find an oil that works for me for each of those things. I haven’t really been proactive in doing so, but know that something out there will work because I have seen it in other things. I’ve used lemon oil for heart burn, RC and Raven (YoungLiving blends) for breathing, and a mix of lemon lavender and peppermint for allergies. I never worry about over dosing or needing to go to the doctor to get a refill or putting unhealthy chemicals in my body when I use these oils. They’re literally plants that I’m putting in my body and they’re benefitting me like they do for the plant they come from.Like I said last week, I’m still new to all of this. But I can say that I love essential oils! They’ve helped me with back pain, foot pain, cramps, sleeping, breathing, allergies, reflux, skin care, cooking, non-toxic living, and more. It would be nearly impossibly to pick a favorite, but right now I think my favorite is Cedarwood. Cedarwood oil comes from the Eastern Red Cedar tree. If you’re like me and like the smell of camping and trees, woodsy smells, you’d love this one. It is known for being anti infectious and also a sedative. Those are two very different things, but our bodies all react differently chemically so all oils have diverse uses. I love diffusing this one with lavender at night,, as it helps me sleep, and I also have it in a spray bottle for my pillow. I’m sure next week I’ll have a new favorite!
I first heard about oils through my mom. She was all about them, telling me all the ways she used them, and how I should start using them as well. Honestly I thought it was just another ploy or “be healthy” fad that has come but will quickly go. I have always strived to be healthy but I thought using oils was doing too much. After several months of hearing my mom talk about her oils I still wasn’t a believer. Then my dad was telling me how he was using them and how they were working for his allergies and asthma. I was shocked! My dad using oils, and admitting they worked, blew me away. I knew then that I had to give them a shot.Come to find out they aren’t cheap, so Chloë and I decided to make the investment together and got a kit to try them out. And I haven’t looked back since! I really enjoy diffusing them, finding diffuser recipes on Pinterest, and allowing the aroma fill up the whole room. Typically one of the first things I do when I get home is turn on the diffuser. But I do also use them topically for aches and pains, upset stomachs, or on days when I need a little help with my emotional balance. Using oils has made such a difference in so many areas of my life and as I continue to chose to be healthy oils have allowed me to cut out any types of medicine from life, which takes away some of the crazy side effects medicine can bring.Picking just one oil as my favorite is tough, but I would definitely have to go with frankincense. It’s one of the gifts the wise men gave Jesus when he was a kid so who wouldn’t like that!? But seriously the scent is amazing, it is great for your skin, and promotes spiritual grounding. I couldn’t ask for more. I still have so much to learn about this oil and all the others, but right now frankincense is my go to.
